Nicolas Cage Starring As Bad Lieutentant

The new movie by Werner Herzog, The Bad Lieutenant, does not want to be a remake of the 1992 film by Abel Ferrara, assured the German director and screenwriter himself in an intereview for the web site comingsoon.net after the New York presentation of his new documentary film Encounters at the End of the World, set in Antarctica.

Photo by daylife.comThe film, starring the same couple of Ghost Rider, Nicolas Cage-Eva Mendes, and whose shooting will start at the end of the summer, won't be a simple remake of the noir by Ferrara but a completely different story: "My film is not a remake. You have to delete the previous movie from your memory. It's like a James Bond film: the newest one is not a remake of the previous one but a completely new story. The only thing in common with Ferrara film is that it has a corrupt policeman as central character".

In Herzog’s prolific career directing a Hollywood star like Nicolas Cage comes as something unusual, though the film director is very happy about it: “I am pleased to direct Nicolas Cage, who showed great interest in working with me. Unfortunately the film will have to be done in a very short time as Nicolas is a very busy actor."
